RickNews was first published in 1996, using a color inkjet printer and a PowerComputing computer. The personal ‘zine of Rick, it gained national attention and it was even mentioned in the New York Times.

Popular reviews by the ‘zine authorities of the day meant that Rick was overwhelmed and had to stop printing the publication. Instead, Rick taught himself HTML and posted the ‘zine to the then-nascient World Wide Web.
